3 Reasons to Consider Independent Hotels

Lots of us stay in hotels at least once a year. Some need to stay in hotels a lot for work. We go on staycations, vacations, or may even need a hotel as a temporary home.

During the pandemic hotels suffered. There were layoffs, and a lack of business. This blog is not to take away from the fact that big chain hotels also took a blow, or to say that there is anything wrong with big chain hotels. This blog is simply to bring attention to the small and independently owned hotels. So, let me highlight why you should look at an independent hotel for your next stay.

The Service

Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying that big chain hotels have terrible customer service. Lots of them have great customer service. However, their customer service tactics will be much different than the small, independent hotel. A smaller hotel will have more opportunities to engage on a more personal level with their guests. They can form friendships with the regulars, go above and beyond for first timers, and engage more throughout the guests’ stay. There are a number of our regular guests that we know by name and engage with them, building friendships with them. We’ve been able to go above and beyond for families who were forced out of their homes due to fires. Even the way we do breakfast is different as we serve it, rather than doing buffet style, which allows us to check in with guests and see how their stay is going.

Individuality

Independent hotels have the opportunity to show the individuality and personality of the owners with how they present their hotel. They are able to add their own unique touches to the building, the rooms, and the way that they run their business. Take our hotel, for example. The owners have created an environment of a family rather than just a bunch of people working together. We are all close and ready to help each other out, even outside of work. This family mentality has even progressed to how we treat our guests. We have a sign in our lobby that says “May all who enter as guests, leave as friends.” Our goal is to run the hotel with that mentality, doing what we can to make your stay feel like you’re at home, not just at a hotel.

Appearances

When it comes to chain hotels, you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all. They all look the same and you know exactly what to expect with the rooms and layout of the building. This is not a bad thing. However, for those who want something different, an independent hotel is perfect. It doesn’t always fit into the same niche as other hotels, and even the very appearance of the hotel can look different. Different independent hotels can have different personalities, which could attract guests of that same type of personality. You have the opportunity to find the hotel that fits your needs perfectly.

Conclusion

There is so much charm, character, and unique touches to an independent hotel. They are also the businesses that need your help the most as everything is coming out of pocket from the owners. So, next time you’re picking your hotel, why not look for the small and unique ones and give them a chance. You may just find your favourite new place to stay, and maybe you’ll even make a few friends on the way.
