Making 2023 the Best Year Yet
Happy New Year. I know it’s a bit late, but here we are. New year, new experiences. Are you someone who makes new year’s resolutions? Or are you someone who doesn’t care to make goals at the beginning of the year that you have no intention of actually accomplishing? Whichever category you fall into, how about we make this year the best year! How? Well, here are just a few ways we can make 2023 better than 2022.
Be Intentional
If there is one thing anyone can do, it’s be intentional with the people we cherish. Friends and family, coworkers and clients. Take that five minutes to share your appreciation of someone. Go out for coffee, shovel their driveway, help with groceries, or even just be someone they can depend on. Some people just want to know that there are people out there who care. Be that person for those in your life.
Be Kind
We turn on the news and see so much hate in the world with fighting and wars, crimes and tragedies. Now imagine a world where you turned on the news and heard about how people were kind, supportive and loving. Impossible you say? It starts with you. It can be as simple as smiling at a stranger, or paying for the coffee of the person behind you in the drive thru. You can buy a homeless person a meal, or volunteer at the soup kitchen. You never know how one act of kindness can change someone’s day or even life.
Be Humble
It’s so easy for us to brag about all the good things in our life. The promotion, the new car, that prize you won. Even when you show kindness it’s so easy to say ‘look what I did’. But what if we didn’t brag about ourselves, but lifted others up? What if you went to that coworker who recommended you for that promotion and let them know how much you appreciate them? What if you shared that prize with people you know would appreciate it just as much as you? What if you did that act of kindness without expecting anything in return? What if, instead of focusing on ourselves, we focused on other people? Imagine how much the world would change.
Take Care of Yourself
Now we do have one that is self focused. We never want to get so caught up in helping other people that we don’t take the time to take care of ourselves. Mental health is so important, and we need to start making that a priority. As a parent, you can model how to be intentional, kind and humble, but you can also show your child that they should never sacrifice their mental health to do so. Maybe you mentor someone, or are a role model. Maybe you’re a supervisor or a manager. The more we take care of our mental health, the more we can be there for others and help them.
These are just some ideas. Here at the hotel, we strive to be intentional, kind and humble. We encourage our staff to take care of themselves and are there to help if the need should arise. We want to do the same with our guests. After all, we wouldn’t be here without you. As we continue into the new year, we look forward to hosting you all here, be it for a night, a week, or a special event. We are here for you. Thank you for all your support and let's make 2023 the best year yet.
