What is a Mom?

Mother’s Day is coming and we have another blog. Last year we gave you 3 ways to celebrate mom. This year, we want to do something a bit different. What is a mom? Is she just a woman who gives birth to you or is she much more?

Now, a quick disclaimer. We understand that there are people who are not with their biological moms, or people who were raised by abusive mothers. Our hearts go out to you and we hope that you can find healing from those hurts. This blog is to be for entertainment purposes only. Now, let’s talk about moms.

The Care-Giver:

Moms are wonderful women who will go above and beyond for their children. It might not always look like it to us kids, but think about it. Her telling you to eat your veggies was not to be mean, but to keep you healthy. When she told you to go play outside, she wanted you to get some movement and fresh air, again to stay healthy. All you cool kids that didn’t want to wear the jacket your mother told you to. You guessed it, it’s because she cared about your health. She caringly makes you meals, cleans up after you, changes your diapers when you’re a baby. Moms care so much about us.

The Teacher:

Even if you are not homeschooled, your mom teaches you a lot, if you pay attention. She teaches you how to treat others, how to respond when you are hurt by someone, and how to forgive. She teaches you how to cook and/or bake, how to clean, and how to take care of yourself. She’s there for your first words, your first steps, your first potty. There are so many different things our mom’s can teach us, depending on their skills and how they grew up. Some moms teach their kids how to garden, others how to sew or create. Moms teach us how to care for others, how to dress ourselves, and so much more. Then, there are moms who sacrifice their free time to homeschool, instead of sending their kids off to school. Moms are incredible teachers.

Someone Who Believe In Us:

I once heard a mom say that her greatest joy was watching her kids do what they love. If they are able, moms help their kids pursue their dreams. How many moms drive their kids to sports tryouts, practices and games? They cheer really loud, and tell you how proud they are of you, even if you don’t do well. Moms take us to dance classes and recitals, help us sign up for music lessons, post our art work for the world to see. They help with homework, and encourage us to do our best. They cry as we leave for college or university to pursue our dreams, but are our biggest cheerleaders while we pursue our dreams. They challenge us to do our best.

Conclusion:

Moms do so much for us, and it doesn’t seem fair that we only celebrate that one day of the year. Remember to thank your mom for all that she has done. Don’t wait till Mother’s day, or her birthday, or any other holiday. Let her know on a random day. Do something special for her for no reason. She will appreciate it, and she deserves it.
