Halloween at the Roadhouse
Halloween. Some people love it, others hate it, and yet some are indifferent. Even here at the hotel, each individual person on staff has their own feelings towards Halloween. So, why promote it? Why do a special event to “celebrate” Halloween? It’s all in the heart, our heart, for community and for family.
We know that for most people, Halloween means spending way too much money on candy, only to hand it out to kids in costumes, while mom and dad wait in the warm van. Some people go all out with the decorations, others turn off the lights and hide in the basement to make it appear like no one is home. Every year less people want to take part in trick or treating. Parents don’t want to go out in the cold to try and find houses that will be handing out candy for their kids. So, we at the hotel put our heads together. How can we bring joy to a weekend that so many people dread? How can we bring joy to the kids? How can we bring families together?
We tried over the last two years to do something new and different for Halloween. We tried doing themed weekends where we encouraged families to come to the hotel and do fun activities together. We even had ideas for a type of family camp style weekend. However, restrictions put an end to that. So, this year we decided to just see what would happen with a smaller event. That is how our movie night came to be.
Some of you have wondered, why do a scary movie night? If you’re trying to bring families together, why play a scary movie? There are families out there who like scary movies because they have teenagers who enjoy scary movies. Then there are couples who like a good scary movie. As a hotel, we want to be able to reach out and accommodate everyone, even horror movie buffs. That’s why we decided to do two nights, and the second movie night is aimed at those with smaller children.
We understand that Halloween is not for everyone, and that’s okay. We just want to do something fun at the hotel to give families something different to do, plus it’s inside so you can stay warm. A night away in a hotel can add some excitement and now you’re not just going out for a movie, but getting a night away from home and having time to spend together as a family. We even have some board games and card games for families to borrow for some extra fun. We might not have a pool with a water slide, but we still have activities for families, even if you don’t want to come for the movie, but just want a fun family night out. We will try to have more fun weekends throughout the year, and as they grow in popularity, we can make them bigger with more activities. So, come stay with us a night or two and give us a chance to help you make fun family memories.
