Take a Hike: Hiking Manitoba

Summer is almost here. It is finally warming up. Were you starting to wonder if it would ever get here? I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to get outside and enjoy the sun, the beaches, and check out some hiking trails.

Did you know we have several beautiful trails that you can check out without leaving the province? You can even make a day trip out of it. Here is a list of 9 trails for you to checkout this summer.

Local Trails: Who says you need to go far to be able to enjoy a nice hike?

  1. Bush Farm Trail: There’s one right here in Steinbach. This 4.2km trail goes through the bush behind Southland Church, past the soccer park and out past Abe’s hill. A great trail for walking, biking, or jogging. If you like rollerblading, just don’t go through the bush as that part of the trail is not paved.
  2. Rosenthal Nature Trail: This short trail is just outside of Steinbach, between Mitchell and Randolf (about 10 minutes from Steinbach). It features a pond and a couple walking paths around it and through the trees. Perfect if you don’t want to travel far but want to get out in nature.
  3. Ledingham Bridge Loop: This short trail is located just beside the Ledingham Car Dealership in Steinbach. The trail loops around a creek and is a fun little hike, great for the whole family!
  4. Tourond Creek Discovery Centre: Located about 15 minutes from Steinbach, Tourond Creek has several trails to try. There is also a lookout and picnic area. This is a great location for taking photos and exploring.

Suspension Bridge Trails: Who doesn’t want to see a cool bridge?

  1. Roseau River Swinging Bridge Trail: Located just under an hour south of Steinbach, this trail is a must to experience with beautiful scenery and a swinging bridge. Don’t forget your camera.
  2. Pinawa Trail: This trail is a must, with some fun things to see on the trail, including the Pinawa Dam, a Suspension Bridge, and beautiful views of the water. This trail is located just outside of Pinawa and is about an hour and a half drive from Steinbach.

  1. Alfred Hole Goose Sanctuary Interpretive Trail: This trail is located on a goose sanctuary and is a beautiful location, with some interesting things to see.
  2. Amisk Trail: This is a self guiding trail. Walk through a forest and have nice views of the nearby river. This trail has lots of spots that would be great for a picnic!
  3. Hunt Lake Trail: This scenic hike is located in Whiteshell Provincial Park. This trail has a lot of ups and downs and could be considered quite difficult. A good challenge with a gorgeous view. Don’t forget to bring lots of water!

Whiteshell Provincial Park is about an hour and a half drive from Steinbach, with so many trails to explore! We listed 3 here but there are so many more! Learn More
